This 120-minute virtual session equips K-12 educators with the knowledge and hands-on experience to bring generative AI into their instructional practice. Participants move beyond general tool awareness into practical application, building workflow-ready solutions they can use immediately in their classrooms.
The session covers intentional text and image generation, with ethics, bias, and responsible use woven throughout rather than treated as a separate topic. Participants work with Claude and Playlab.AI during the session, but the strategies and design principles they learn apply to any generative AI tool (Gemini, ChatGPT, School.AI, etc) available to them.
This FREE, NO COST session is offered on the following dates, each identical in content and structure:

Thanks to programmatic support from NYC City Council Members Brooks-Powers and Huson, and NYS Assembly Member Tapia,
Although all NYCPS teachers can register, we will prioritize teachers in CSDs 9, 10, 13, 17, 27, 29, 75, and 84. CTLE credit will be granted to all participants upon full completion of the session

Tool-agnostic principles, tool-specific practice. Teachers learn transferable design principles (how prompts shape outputs, how constraints control behavior, how training data introduces bias) that apply regardless of which AI tool their school or district uses. In-session, they build with Claude and Playlab.AI to ground these principles in concrete experience.
Ethics as a through-line, not a module. Rather than isolating ethics, bias, and safety into a dedicated segment, these ideas surface at every decision point: when teachers write chatbot instructions, when they examine image outputs, when they choose what tasks to hand to AI and what to keep with students. This mirrors how responsible AI use actually works in practice.
Tinker time is learning time. The Long Island pilot confirmed that teachers value extended hands-on time to experiment, test, revise, and connect AI tools to their own curriculum. This session protects significant build time rather than front-loading lecture content.
Teachers leave with something they can use. Every participant leaves with at least one classroom-ready artifact: a chatbot, a set of refined image prompts, or an instructional activity design that integrates generative AI into an existing lesson or routine.
By the end of this session, teachers will be able to:
